The one confirmed emergency number to save for a visit is 112. A number alone is not a rescue plan: the useful preparation is knowing how to make a concise report while keeping the group safe.

Save one dependable number

Store 112 before leaving and make sure a responsible adult can unlock and use the phone. Do not rely on unconfirmed local numbers copied from old travel material.

Prepare a location description

Notice route signs, junctions and named landmarks as you travel. If an incident occurs, say the last reliable point as well as where you believe you are now.

Describe people, not assumptions

Tell the dispatcher how many people are involved, what has happened and their apparent condition. Avoid diagnosing or minimising; answer follow-up questions and follow the instructions given.

Preserve safety while waiting

Move only if remaining in place is more dangerous, keep the group together where possible, and avoid using a phone call as a reason to take extra risks.
