Where to seek help
Match help to the situation: secure the group first, then clearly give location and problem to the right service.

Seeking help starts by making the immediate scene safer without creating another casualty. Then communicate facts: where you are, what has happened, how many people are involved and what condition they are in. A vague request from an uncertain location is harder to act on than a calm, precise report.
Separate emergency from inconvenience
A changed itinerary, tiredness that improves with rest, or missed transport may call for a conservative return, not an emergency response. Immediate danger, serious deterioration or inability to continue safely needs urgent escalation.
Locate the group before calling
Use trail signs, named features, map information and the last reliable junction. Keep the group together where it is safe to do so. Do not send someone alone into unfamiliar terrain merely to obtain a better signal.
Give usable information
State the location, problem, number of people, condition and weather or terrain factors. Answer questions directly and follow instructions. Keep a phone available after the call.
Use health services appropriately
For non-emergency healthcare needs, consult current official health-service information. Availability, access and arrangements are variable and should be verified directly with the relevant provider.
What to do when you are unsure whether the situation is urgent
Choose safety over completing the walk: stop, assess, and make the return simpler. If there is a real threat to life or safety, call 112 rather than delaying for certainty. Give the dispatcher the clearest facts available.
