Zamek – pierwotnie zwany Dunajec – powstał między 1320 a 1330 r. z inicjatywy Kokosza Berzeviczego, rycerza spiskiego rodu Berzeviczych Spisz and Podhale. History

The castle was built in the years 1320-1330 on the initiative of the knightly Berzeviczy family, as part of the defensive system of the northern border of the then Kingdom of Hungary. Over the centuries, it passed into the hands of various families (including Berzeviczy, Zapolya, Drugeth, Horváth, Salamon), and its lower courtyards and wings were rebuilt many times in the Renaissance and Classicist style. After World War II, it came under the management of the Association of Art Historians, and in 1963 a museum was opened here, which has been operating continuously to this day.
